Our Mission

Heaps Good Casting (HGC) delivers thoughtful, industry led casting direction and consultation for film, television and commercial projects.

Led by working industry professionals, we bring deep experience across film, television, commercials and independent productions, supporting creatives with casting that is considered, collaborative and story driven.

About Heaps Good Casting

We specialise in authentic, performance driven casting, prioritising story, character and collaboration at every stage of the process. Our approach is grounded in respect for actors, clarity for creatives, and a strong understanding of the practical realities of production.

Based in Australia, we work closely with local and interstate producers and directors and collaborate internationally where projects require overseas casting support, with established industry connections in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Our Approach

At HGC, we believe great casting is built on trust, preparation and clear creative alignment.

We work closely with producers, directors and filmmakers to understand the creative intent and practical demands of each project, ensuring casting supports story, schedule and scope while remaining responsive throughout the process.

Our Work Spans:

  • Film (feature and short)
  • Television
  • Commercials
  • Independent and emerging projects

Where possible, casting sessions are conducted in person. For interstate and overseas projects, we adapt our process to suit each brief, delivering professionally managed remote casting while maintaining clarity, rigour and creative oversight.

We prioritise clear communication, thorough preparation and decisive shortlisting giving creatives confidence, efficiency and considered options at every stage. By running a respectful, well-structured casting process, we support strong performances while keeping casting aligned with the realities of delivery.

Acting is living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.

Jimmy Lyons is a casting director with over 25 years of experience across film, television and theatre.

Born in Houston, Texas, Jimmy studied Fine Arts and Business at Georgetown University before spending more than a decade in Los Angeles working as an actor, writer and story consultant. During this time, he was regularly engaged to rewrite and develop optioned material, collaborating closely with producers to strengthen character and narrative.

Jimmy trained extensively at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under Milton Katselas, Allen Barton, Art Cohan and Richard Lawson — an experience that shaped his story-first, performance-driven approach to casting. His background as a working actor and writer allows him to communicate clearly with performers while maintaining a strong understanding of the practical realities of production.

As a playwright, Jimmy’s work has enjoyed critical and commercial success, including a sold-out run of Alter Ego in Los Angeles and New York, and The King, which received critical acclaim at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Based in Australia, Jimmy brings a grounded, production-aware approach to casting, informed by decades of experience both in front of and behind the camera.

"We want to see what you have come up with, what you bring to the table. What you have instinctively imagined. As that’s authentic, true, and raw. If it works, great, if it doesn't, great. Either way you win, because you were authentic to your creative expression as an artist. That’s what truly matters." - LP
